i know you can find them on Ebay (though I can't), and I know the the widescreen centre has some. Anybody know of any place in the US that sells them? Or if the ones from widescreen centre are any good? thanks in advance...

Check out the 8mm Metadirectory at http://lavender.fortunecity.com/lavender/569/
I think Martin Baumgarten has an archived article under the Camera section.

Ebay has them listed all the time.
To find them, click on PHOTO on Ebay's home page. Then click on MOVIE, which will show you 6 catagories. In the SEARCH window, type the word: anamorphic
That will search through all 6 catagories & list them for you.

the isco-optic (iscorama-54) anamorphic lenses the widescreen centre offers are reputed as quality lenses. the problem i encountered is that the schneider 6-66 on my 4008, as well as the c-8 on my 1014xl-s both posses a lens barrel diameter greater than 54mm, which is the maximum rear diameter of the anamorphic attachments the widescreen centre offers. so i would not be utilizing my entire focal length range. the iscorama-54 goes for somewhere in the market of $2,000. that's well out of my price range. another candidate is the kowa pa-35, also available from the widescreen centre. this anamorphic attachment is much more affordable. if i remember correctly, it was only a few hundred dollars. both possess a 54mm rear element diameter.
these are just the two attachments i considered. they posses the largest rear element diameter. if you have a smaller lens barrel diameter, there are, of course, more options.
as one reader suggested, ebay is the best option, in my opinion. after months of monitoring the anamorphic auctions, i spotted a zeiss ikon anamorphot III. this is a huge, beautiful, 2x compression lens (in lieu of the common 1.5x or 1.75x on the iscorama-54 and kowa pa-35, respectively).
i found this item just minutes before the auction's end and snagg'd it for only $80.
it's truly beautiful. it had only one spot of fungus, which i cleaned. i have not tested it just yet, as i need to acquire a bracket for the attachment.
in essence, yes, i recommend ebay. if you can't find one there, talk to the widescreen centre.

I'm selling my matched pair of Bausch & Lomb anamorphics on ebay right now.
(Auction closes Sept 9th). So you can do two camera shoots in anamorphic.
They are flawless, and they are awesome.

I tried to use these on my Nizo 6080, but the 67mm lens barrel is too big.
They would work on cameras with smaller diameter lenses.
You can mount them with the Manfrotto telephoto lens mount, which mounts the camera & the lens together, & is adjustable for really huge lenses.
Thanks!

Too bad you didn't do a test with a camera with the right size lens, it would have been interesting to know what the results were.

I thought this might be of some interest since this question came up in a new post recently.
